Tatler case study

General

1. Based on the trailer I believe that  the type of people that produce and consume Tatler are interested in luxurious brands and come from a upper class background. This is shown in the Posh People trailer at 0:02 where the narrator says "wanted journalist for the UK poshest magazines". This shows that the Tatler magazine are the elite and only take the up most best journalist which shows they want their magazine to be absolutely splendid and suits the psycographics for the upper class.

2. The editor introduces the magazine with an image of a lady sitting down ,smiling while reading a Tatler magazine. On the right hand side it gives a quote which is said by the woman in the image who is
Kate Reardon. she is answering the question which is what is Tatler which is placed under the quote.

3. readership:16,300
Average HHI:261,572
Female 73% ABCI 83%AB 51% Average age 41
London SE 70%
these demographics suggest that many middle age women like to read this in the south west which is one of the richest areas of London with many expensive people who live there who would be able to afford Tatler magazine without really considering the price and would just buy it.

4. 62% of Tatler reader agree that they often buy fashion products after seeing things advertised in the magazines.
£843 million spent on fashion in the past year.

5. Each magazine represents a different psychographic as it shows different parts in the year. An example of this is the spa guide in June which is getting you ready for summer which is advertised on the front poster which is a drawing of the beach which represents heat and summer.

Media language

1. Tatler has nine out of twelve conventions.

2.The font is sans serif which is also a bit long and its also pink to represent women who are normally connected to pink.

3. The font is sans serif and the choice of that is it makes it look more modern and present.

4.The cover line appeals to women and girls by having a woman on the front cover and putting loads of make up on her and making the colour of the title pink which is connected to females.

5. What are the connotations of the Tatler colour scheme on this particular front cover?
The pink appeals to your eyes so the audience reads it so it appeals to the audience more. Mostly the key important parts of the text are placed in different colors so it can appeal to the eyes of the audience.

6.
The central image interest the magazine as the clothes the woman is wearing could be fashionable at the time of the magazines release. Another way the  image makes the magazine interesting is all of the jewellery the woman on the front page is wearing. This might be considered very expensive and classy as it is advertised on the front cover so more women will want it and buy it.

Representation

1.The groups of people represented on the cover are wealthy, aristocratic and upper class British people.

2.They suggest that they live mainly busy but luxurious lifestyles, enjoy reading gossip about celebrities, buy clothes and accessories on a regular basis and rely on magazines and other sources to keep up their reputation.

3. The stereotypes reinforced could be the attendance of formal events and excessive spending of money on materialistic goods.

4.The magazine represents upper class, wealthy women, none of the tag lines are targeted towards middle class audiences. The magazine is also feminine and lacks conventionally masculine features. This suggests the target audience is predominantly females with large disposable incomes.

5.The preferred reading would be that Tatler is elitist and professionalThe oppositional reading is the magazine is aimed at people with money. `

Social and cultural context

1. In Tatler they only show the rich life of Britain not the average citizen.

2.It shows that life in Britain is rich not poor and there is a lot of people who can afford to afford expensive things. It's telling everyone Britain is also a rich country and it's not poor like other countries.

3.Average people can get offended because it's aimed at rich people. Which means the magazine is saying only rich people can afford clothes.
